SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION FOR THE PURCHASE OF 180
LICENSES OF VMWARE VIEW SOFTWARE AND ONE YEAR
OF SOFTWARE SUPPORT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of a resolution for the purchase of 180 licenses of
VmWare View Software and one year of software support from SHI Government
Solutions, Inc. through a contract established by the State of Texas Department of
Information Resources (DIR) Cooperative Contracts Program.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding for this purchase is currently available in account 325-44540-101-13-0011
(Information Technology Upgrade/Replacement) in the amount not to exceed $58,834.
BACKGROUND:
This purchase will be made in accordance with a contract established with SHI
Government Solutions, Inc. by the State of Texas Department of Information Resources
(DIR) Cooperative Contracts Program contract. Purchases through this program are
authorized under Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271, Subchapter D and
Texas Government Code Chapter 2054, Section 2054.0565 (b).
Bids were taken by the cooperative and a contract was awarded to SHI Government
Solutions, Inc. Department staff reviewed the contract for specification compliance and
pricing and determined that the contract would provide the best product and pricing for
meeting the needs of the City. The Cooperative Purchasing Agreement satisfies all
bidding requirements under the Texas Local Government Code.
This purchase request is for 180 licenses of VmWare View software and one year of
software support. This is part of the virtual desktop system. This software acts as a
broker between the Windows operating system on the servers and the Desktop devices
and is an essential part of the virtual desktop system. VmWare is the company used by
the City for all our server and desktop virtualization. VmWare View software is the
product that handles all connections for zero client desktop devices including mobile
devices such as laptops and iPads.

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS,AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
OR THE CITY MANAGER'S I C A 170
LICENSES OF VMWARE VIEW SOFTWARE THROUGH
STATE OF TEXAS DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
RESOURCES ( I ) CONTRACT PROGRAM AND
PROVIDING FCI DATE
WHEREAS, the City of rapevine, Texas is a local government in the State of
Texas and as such is empowered by the Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271,
Subchapter D and Texas Government Code Chapter 2054, Section 2054.0565(b)to make
purchases under a state contract therefore satisfying any state law requiring local
governments to seek competitive bids for the purchase of the item; and
WHEREAS, the State of Texas Department of Information Resources (DI R)
Cooperative Contracts program is a qualified purchasing program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine, Texas can participate in the State of Texas DIR
Cooperative Contracts Program through membership in the Program and wishes to utilize
the contract meeting II State of Texas bidding requirements; and
WHEREAS, the State of Texas DIR has an established contract I - -100
with SHI Government Solutions, Inc. for Augmenting Software Products and Related
Services.
THEREFORE, IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE,
Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct and
are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of rapevine authorizes the purchase
with SHI Government Solutions, Inc. for VmWare View Software for an amount not to
exceed $58,834.00.
Section 3. That the City Manager, or his designee, is authorized to take all steps
necessary to consummate the purchase of said devices.
Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 19th day of February, 2013.
