RECOGNITIONS
Chairman Ratliff recognized board member Sue Franks for bringing back the Speakers
Bureau with committee members Janet Perkins and Frances Jensen, who together
developed their presentation to make the public aware of the Foundation's mission; they
recently spoke at a Rotary luncheon, signing on several new members there. He
recognized Treasurer Balla Wright for heading up the Grapevine Heritage Foundation
Scholarship Committee to give financial aid to a college bound student studying
heritage or architecture; the first scholarship was awarded in May 2017. Chairman
Ratliff asked for a round of applause for ALL!
The CVB learned in 2016 of an antique circa 1890 E. Van Winkle cotton gin in South
Carolina, the owners needed to make space and would gift it to the CVB for the Cotton
Ginner's House museum. Commercial freight shipping for an item of this weight and
age of over 120 years old was out of the question, the CVB asked Museum Consultant
Brad Dougher to go to South Carolina to carefully truck this valuable piece of history
back to Grapevine. Tonight we recognize Brad Dougher for his care and expertise in
retrieving this important piece. Mr. Dougher was called forward to receive a Certificate
of Recognition from the Foundation.
Once the circa 1890 cotton gin was here, it was time for the restoration team to tune the
gin up for another 120 plus years. The Grapevine Heritage Foundation recognized our
Cotton Gin Team of Joe Luccioni, Chris Reyher, Bruce Gleghorn, Dave Aungst, John
Bush and our CVB Maintenance Manager Keith Nolley whose experience with historic
structures got the cotton gin into the ginner's house. Chairman Ratliff said the
Foundation thanked the team and Keith for their appreciation of heritage.
After 25 years of service with Grapevine's Dirty Dozen, Doug Brawner announced his
retirement. Chairman Ratliff called Mr. Brawner forward to thank and present him with
a certificate of recognition for his many hours helping Nash Farm.
Chairman Ratliff noted board member Patricia Stinson was not in attendance due to
illness, but the Foundation recognized her many years of service as the elected
Secretary to the Grapevine Heritage Foundation.
All thanked Farm Manager Cody Jolliff and his staff for the beautiful dinner and
wonderful hospitality as Chairman Ratliff closed the meeting with a quote from Robert
McNamara of: "Brains, like Hearts... Go where they are appreciated".

Melva Stanfield, seconded by Sue Franks, made the motion to adjourn the meeting at
7:50 p.m. The motion prevailed by the following vote:
