Acts of the 1993 Texas Legislature, the Grapevine Heritage Foundation Board meeting agenda was prepared and posted by the 16th day of March 2018 at 5:00 pm.1k) David Klempin Manager, Heritage Programs & Preservation 21 March 2018 STATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF TARRANT CITY OF GRAPEVINE The Grapevine Heritage Foundation (GHF) Advisory Board met at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 in the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau 2nd Floor Boardroom, 636 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas 76051 for their regular scheduled monthly meeting. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Curtis Ratliff called the meeting to order at 5 p.m. and thanked all for attending. II. CITIZEN COMMENTS There were no citizen comments. Any person who is not scheduled on the agenda may address the Historic Preservation Commission under Citizen Comments by completing a Citizen Appearance Request form. In accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Advisory Board is restricted in discussing or taking action during Citizen Comments. 1 March 21, 2018 III 21 March 2018 III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Balla Wright made the motion to accept the minutes as written from the February 21, 2018 meeting. Becky Hummer seconded the motion, which prevailed in the following vote: Ayes: All (Ratliff, Stanfield, Wright, Franks, Hummer and Stinson) Nays: None Absent: Perkins and Jensen OLD BUSINESS There were 215 active members in February; and donations of $2,100 were received. Vice Chairman Melva Stanfield gave the Nash Farm report for February with the Farmers Institute program presenting many of the aspects of farming from the garden to the table; the group made their own chicken noodle soup. The First Friday program was making paper kites with an attendance of 197. The Wood Stove Cooking Workshop had five attendees, a good size group for the kitchen. Farm staff planned activities for the week of Spring Break with 956 visitors during the week and sales of $1,300 in the Farm Store. Farm Manager Cody Jolliff showed two new Nash Farm ladies shirts now available in the store. Chairman Ratliff called for any questions or comments. Treasurer Balla Wright announced the 2018 yearlong sponsorships now totaling $14,500; to be added to as Vice Chairman Stanfield, Council Liaison Mike Lease and Sue Franks each pledged as sponsors. Paula Newman reported the Palace Arts Center serviced 27 events in February with 2,347 guests attending. NEW BUSINESS Sue Franks gave the update for the Speakers Bureau saying the previously scheduled AMBUCS presentation had been moved to next week on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Farm Manager Cody Jolliff said the invitations to the membership for the Farm to Fork Experience were mailed out the previous day; the Spring Into Nash (SPIN) posters and flyers were now available; and the SPIN committee would meet next Tuesday, March 27th at 8:30 a.m. at the Farm. He thanked and complimented Treasurer Wright for her work in obtaining sponsorships and securing their logos. He announced an ad would be in the Community Impact publication recognizing those who had already agreed to sponsor Nash Farm programming. He reminded all to sign up for the "Annual American Living History Farms and Museums (ALHFAM) Conference" in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, urging all to attend due to the proximity of the location. David Klempin gave the update for Historic Main Street and the Township with the groundbreaking for Grapevine Main Station, the Plaza and Hotel Vin on March 7th, noting Paula Newman's great planning as the liaison for the ceremony, Mayor's toast 2 March 21, 2018 21 March 2018 and luncheon. The historic landmarking for the Blevins House and the property at 221 Austin Street were approved by the City Council last night. He said he had been really busy and thanked Chairman Ratliff for his help in researching methods used in the construction of log cabins. DISTRIBUTION OF LIAISON REPORTS Grapevine Historical Society (GHS) - Chairman Ratliff reported the program for Black History Month recognized the citizens of The Hill and the early black culture in Grapevine. Member Sue Franks, who grew up in Grapevine, said Grapevine was not dangerous but spoke on the segregation in the theatre and saying she heard things about the 1940s — 50s she had never heard before. Balla Wright told of being a new bride and attending a funeral with Joe at Love Chapel, she noted so much spirit. Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) — Paula Newman reported on the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau board meeting noting Becky Hummer for her nice summary as the GHF liaison. She said the new Director of Sales, Joe Thompson, was introduced at the meeting. The Sales Team, Council and Board had the St. Patrick's mission in New York City with meeting planners invited to the Sea Grill at Rockefeller Center with skating provided; it was a very successful mission with good leads. In February the sales team booked 81,000 room nights, sales staff attended Visit USA in Australia to promote Grapevine. 94 Registration Assistants aided 18 groups; Destination Services distributed 9,575 brochures; the VIC and museums had 5,967 visitors and 430 volunteer hours; and the Main Street Fest meetings have begun. The CVB board reviewed Grants & Aid requests for the Melange Musical group performing at the PAC on April 23; a grant to move the 1850s McPherson barn; and a request to cover expenses to transport a donated Grapevine/ColleyviIle bus for the Sister City Rotarians. Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) - David Klempin reported on the commission. Sue Franks asked about the large foundation under construction on West Wall Street; it was a new home under construction to be all one level and with "no" living space above the detached garage. DISCUSSION Cody Jolliff presented the new volunteer recruitment poster based on a pre -World War I agriculture scene.
