The Library Board of the Grapevine Public Library of the City of Grapevine, Texas met in Regular
Session on the 16th day of April, 2018 at 6:30PM in the Board Room, Grapevine Public Library,
1201 Municipal Way, with the following members present to -wit:

Chairman
Lynda Brown

Susan Peabody

Bruce Rider

Janee Trasler

Debbie Venable
Member
constituting a quorum, with the following members of the City Staff:
Janis Roberson
Library Director
Duff O'Dell, City Council Liaison, was not in attendance.
CALL TO ORDER
Janice Cook called the meeting to order at 6:30PM.
Citizen Comments
Susan Peabody spoke as a citizen and thanked the city for the new concrete at the steps to the
main entrance of the library. Bruce Rider expressed his appreciation of the library staff through
his years as a board member. The board thanked Bruce for his many years of service. The
board also expressed their appreciation for Fred Sheffler, how much he is missed, and how
sadden they were by his passing.
Motion by Debbie Venable, seconded by Lynda Brown, to approve the January 15, 2018 meeting
minutes as written:
Ayes: Unanimous
Nays: None
Report of the Retirement Party
Janis stated that the recent retirement party for David Coulter was well attended, that his family
attended, and that it was a great occasion to celebrate David and his thirty years of service as
library staff. There was no formal action taken.
Discussion of Visit to Tour Bookmobiles
Janis has visited more Bookmobiles (Midland, New Braunfels, and Georgetown.) She has

learned a lot of what works and what doesn't work. She shared many of those points with the
board members. There was no formal action taken.
Discussion of the 2018-2019 Budget and Request Suggestions
Janis reported that the new budget had its official kick off. The library budget will be flat for this
coming year. There is some reallocation due to some database funds picked up by the State of
Texas. She has submitted a request for two 19 -hour staff positions in lieu of the recent
personnel attrition. She awaits that approval. There was no formal action taken.
Retort on Donations
The Curry Foundation donated $1000. A family trust has donated $2,000 to be used for
children's programs. There was no formal action taken.
Announcement of Terms Exoirin
The board terms for Bruce Rider, Susan Peabody, and Fred Sheffler are expiring. Susan has
reapplied. There was no formal action taken.
The next quarterly board meeting is scheduled for July 16, 2018 at 6:30PM
ADJOURNMENT
Bruce Rider, seconded by Debbie Venable, motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:04PM. The
motion prevailed by the following vote
