Adjournment The next meeting of the Grapevine Heritage Foundation will be held in the Second Floor Board Room of the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 636 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas. (lcrr David Klempin Manager, Heritage Programs & Preservation 18 April 2018 STATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF TARRANT CITY OF GRAPEVINE The Grapevine Heritage Foundation (GHF) Advisory Board met at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau 2nd Floor Boardroom, 636 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas 76051 for their regular scheduled monthly meeting. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Curtis Ratliff called the meeting to order at 5 p.m. and thanked all for attending. II. CITIZEN COMMENTS There were no citizen comments. Any person who is not scheduled on the agenda may address the Historic Preservation Commission under Citizen Comments by completing a Citizen Appearance Request form. In accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Advisory Board is restricted in discussing or taking action during Citizen Comments. 1 April 18, 2018 18 April 2018 III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Balla Wright made the motion to accept the minutes as written from the March 21, 2018 meeting. Melva Stanfield seconded the motion, which prevailed in the following vote: Ayes: All (Ratliff, Stanfield, Wright, Perkins, Franks, Hummer, Jensen and Stinson) Nays: None Absent: None OLD BUSINESS There were 215 active members in March; and sponsorships received totaling $13,500 Vice Chairman Melva Stanfield gave the Nash Farm report beginning the month with a family reunion of 80 guests; Spring is bringing many school tours to Nash Farm with a Lake Highlands kindergarten class of 106, Southlake's Florence Elementary School's kindergarten class of 135, a group of 100 third graders from Hughes Elementary in Roanoke and 140 first graders from Haslet Elementary. Over 150 visitors stopped by to walk the grounds and visit the livestock. The First Friday "Gardening" program had 135 attendees. The Spring Into Nash event will be April 21, 2018 from 10 a.m. — 2 p.m. with many activities plus spring sheep shearing. The Farm to Fork Supper will be Friday, April 27 with tickets online to hold your seat at the table. Chairman Ratliff called for any questions. Treasurer Balla Wright announced the 2018 yearlong sponsorships, at this time, total $17,500 for year to date. Paula Newman reported the Palace Arts Center had 24 events in March with 2,569 guests. For April, a Chamber Music Concert presented by Melange Musical will be on Sunday, April 22 at 3 p.m. in the Lancaster Theatre, tickets are $20 for seniors and students are $15; on April 26, An Evening with Larry Elder & Mark Davis tickets are $30, $49 and VIP tickets $99; and the Elvis Mother's Day Gospel Brunch starring Kraig Parker will be at noon on May 13, 2018. NEW BUSINESS Frances Jensen thanked Council Liaison Mike Lease for the opportunity for the Speakers Bureau to present to the Grapevine AMBUCs and thanked Cody Jolliff for his set up and Nash Farm presentation there. She said it was well attended with three memberships signed up, and noted Sue Franks was a very gifted speaker; Janet Perkins added they were a very fun group. Farm Manager Cody Jolliff reported March visitor numbers were up at the Farm with April's numbers to date at 979 guests; Kimberly Prack is now working full-time at the Farm. The Farm Store's sales numbers have captured in six months, the entire sales for the last fiscal year. Vice Chairman Stanfield asked for an end of the year profit statement. 2 April 18, 2018 18 April 2018 Cody handed out a Nash Farm newspaper featuring the Spring Into Nash program of a "Skills & Trades Exposition" including a map of Nash Farm activities for the day. He would have a tent up for David Klempin to display the renovations of the Nash Farmhouse on this tenth anniversary of the restoration; crews were working today to ready for the Spring Into Nash event on Saturday. The Farm to Fork Experience supper in the meadow will feature their farm produce for the reception's hors d'oeuvres of deviled eggs and smoked sausage at the Chicken Coop and Smokehouse station; the Kitchen Garden station will feature black eyed peas and pickled veggies; Main Street Bakery & Bistro will prepare and plate the turkey and pork entrees to be served family style around the table with Chef Fabien discussing each dish and its history; desserts will be baked by Mrs. Kimberly Prack. Please remember the upcoming June 1 — 5, 2018 ALHFAM conference in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, the early bird registration has passed, but anyone who would like to register will be helped if needed. David Klempin presented a Power Point of the Foundation's 2018 Preservation Advocacy Award nominees: 1) Preservation/Conservation Award — Mike and Debi Meek 2) Rehabilitation Award — David and Siri Smith 3) Restoration Award — Greg and Janie Dunn 4) Advocacy Award — Helen Jean Lucas Reed Chairman Ratliff called for any questions, there were none. Janet Perkins made the motion to accept the nominations as presented, seconded by Balla Wright. The motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes: All (Ratliff, Stanfield, Wright, Perkins, Franks, Hummer, Jensen and Stinson) Nays: None Absent: None DISTRIBUTION OF LIAISON REPORTS Grapevine Historical Society (GHS) - Chairman Ratliff reported the Sam Houston historian and reenactor was excellent and presented new information Curtis had not known or learned growing up in Texas schools. He announced David Klempin, Sallie Andrews and Lyn Simmons would give a presentation on the history of the McPherson Farmhouse at the Society's April 23, 2018 meeting. Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) — Janet Perkins reported the Commission had a lengthy discussion regarding the new construction on the now vacant lot at 221 Austin Street with much discussion and debate, very interesting. 3 April 18, 2018 18 April 2018 Historic Grapevine Township - David Klempin reported Historic Preservation staff will apply again for the Great American Main Street Award (GAMSA). Work was progressing on the rail station and there have been many applications for Certificates of Appropriateness, some very satisfying like Sandra Horne's First United Methodist Church property and finding Jake Waymire bricks when the house was raised up one and one-half feet. Sue Franks inquired about the Foundation's $1,000 scholarship, no applicants fit the categories; Balla Wright said last year's scholarship was awarded for architectural heritage history. DISCUSSION Treasurer Wright asked for (1) the 2019 GHF calendar to be started now; and (2) something for Bobby Flanagan. David Klempin said in process of a large memorial brick in memory of Nancy Flanagan; Cody Jolliff added the CVB did send flowers ADJOURNMENT Sue Franks, seconded by Janet Perkins, made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:10 p.m. The motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes: All (Ratliff, Stanfield, Wright, Franks, Hummer, Jensen, Perkins and Stinson) Nays: None Absent: None PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE GRAPEVINE HERITAGE FOUNDATION, THE MARCH 21, 2018 MINUTES, ON THIS THE 16TH DAY OF MAY 2018.
