( n David Klempin I I Manager, Heritage Programs & Preservation 20 June 2018 STATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF TARRANT CITY OF GRAPEVINE The Grapevine Heritage Foundation (GHF) Advisory Board met at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 in the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau 2nd Floor Boardroom, 636 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas 76051 for their regular scheduled monthly meeting. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Curtis Ratliff called the meeting to order at 5 p.m. and thanked all for attending. II. CITIZEN COMMENTS There were no citizen comments. Any person who is not scheduled on the agenda may address the Historic Preservation Commission under Citizen Comments by completing a Citizen Appearance Request form. In accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Advisory Board is restricted in discussing or taking action during Citizen Comments. 1 June 20, 2018 20 June 2018 III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Balla Wright made the motion to accept the minutes as written from the April 18, 2018 meeting. Becky Hummer seconded the motion, which prevailed in the following vote: Ayes: All (Ratliff, Wright, Perkins, Franks, Hummer and Jensen) Nays: None Absent: Stanfield and Stinson OLD BUSINESS Janet Perkins reported the Foundation had 215 active members in May; and received donations totaling $900. Letters personalized by the board for membership renewals have been mailed. Farm Manager Cody Jolliff gave the Nash Farm report beginning with the American Living History of Farms and Museums (ALHFAM) conference in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Cody prepared and taught several sessions there and placed 5th in the intermediate plowing contest of skills. The Statewide Conference of Education of the Deaf/Hearing Impaired will meet at the Hilton DFW Lakes July 10 — 12, 2018; they have scheduled a Family Fun event for the Tuesday evening outing "Field Trip to Nash Farm". Nash Farm had many tours scheduled in April and June. The Farm's 13 events in April brought 2,367 visitors and June to date has had 17 events totaling 1,400 visitors. The Farm has acquired an 1846 melodian, a keyboard played by its leather bellows, for the parlor. The restrooms renovation has started and the rabbit hutch was completed. Cody passed around a Travel Journal as part of the Summer Blast Grapevine Rails program linking the museums at Main and Hudgins Streets, on down Hudgins to Nash Farm. The Farmhouse downstairs bedroom has been set up to allow attendees to see how and why items were packed for journeys by rail. The July 14 Ice Cream Social will feature several pre -1930s automobiles; they are expecting 300 — 350 guests again. House docents were requested for touring the Farmhouse. Treasurer Balla Wright reported sponsorships were good. Paula Newman reported the Palace Arts Center had 36 events in May with 5,251 visitors attending. Holiday programming was in process with seven Texas Tenors shows, Kraig Parker's Elvis Christmas and plans for a Rocky Gribble performance. At the Palace, quotes have been received to update to current technology the existing speakers and cable; and three quotes for roofing repairs. Director of Facilities Cheri Christensen had announced her retirement, Paula invited the board to the Convention Center on June 27 from 3:30 — 5 p.m. to wish Cheri well in her future endeavors. 2 June 20, 2018 20 June 2018 NEW BUSINESS Frances Jensen updated the board on the Speakers Bureau saying they had approached the Chamber to present at one of their meetings, but no confirmation yet. Treasurer Balla Wright announced the Grapevine Heritage Foundation annual scholarship of $1,000 had been awarded to student Morgan Boyette to attend Oklahoma State to become a veterinarian, this relating to the Farm and animal care. Chairman Ratliff said he was good with a broad array of architecture studies. Sue Franks said she would check for a photograph with the recipient. The group agreed a letter to membership should go out in March 2019 for contributions to the scholarship fund, to engage members in the mission and remind for renewals. Secretary Janet Perkins reported the 2019 GHF Calendar committee was progressing on requested photographs and she would be verifying the 2019 dates with the Grapevine Historical Society. Mary Bush reported the progress for the 2018 Candlelight Tour of Homes with the Grapevine Rock House on Northwest Highway secured for the day of the tour, November 3; and 14 letters of nomination were mailed to selected homeowners. DISTRIBUTION OF LIAISON REPORTS Grapevine Historical Society (GHS) — Liaison Sue Franks said the May program was the Senior Choir with a tribute of patriotic songs for the Memorial Day holiday. Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) — Paula Newman reported from the May 17 board meeting the sales team had 70 sales leads with 119,000 potential room nights; 13 groups have been booked representing 13,000 room nights with an economic impact of $5 million. The team hosted 20 clients and guests for the 26th Annual New Vintage Wine & Gallery Trail. Main Street Fest was very successful and a busy month with the Grapevine Rails exhibit in the Tower Gallery through GrapeFest. Now readying for Summer Blast and many more promotions for GrapeFest. Historic Grapevine Township — David Klempin reported still many Certificates of Appropriateness applications and commission cases coming in. The Great American Main Street Award (GAMSA) has been applied for again with the help of many testimonials from the Economic Development department plus a great video flyover of the City provided by a drone. The Grapevine Heritage Foundation 2018-19 budget will be presented for approval at the July18 meeting. DISCUSSION Karen Davis Herrington was retiring and the board was invited to attend her retirement event from 3 — 5 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018 in the Grand Hall. 3 June 20, 2018 20 June 2018 The McPherson House was advertised for bid again with a minimum of $315 thousand; bid opening will be July 10 at 2 p.m. The Blevins House has been set and leveled, the siding and paint is to begin June 21, 2018.
