were personalized, at the meeting, to be mailed.
Vice Chairman Melva Stanfield reported Nash Farm had 123 attendees for the First
Friday program, conducted eight interpretive tours, a wedding rental for 67 guests, the
always popular Dairy Day program had 303 attendees and the Parks Goat Yoga at the
Farm had been popular again bringing the month's attendance total to 1,450 in June.
July's First Friday had 149 attendees, 13 tours completed thus far in July with five tours
scheduled for the last half of July, the Ice Cream Social had 350 guests yielding a total
of 1,041 visitors thru July 18.
Farm Manager Cody Jolliff reported the Join the Nash Farm Volunteer posters were
being distributed with a volunteer drive scheduled for the afternoon of August 4 and
another opportunity to be scheduled later. He reminded the board of the Skills and
Trades Exposition with various activities. Cody passed around his Cotton Belt Railroad
Employee Records book to be filled in by guests attending the Summer Blast Grapevine
Rails program. The Farm is participating with the records book, a make your own
luggage tag and courses on packing to travel by 19th century rail; button pins will be
given as guests visit each stop beginning with the museums and continuing on to Nash
Farm.
Barn Dance tickets are now available online, a few already have been purchased. He
passed around photographs of the folks attending the Ice Cream Social in beautiful
period appropriate clothing; the Texas Vintage Society had 30 members attend dressed
in 1920's clothing. Everyone really enhanced to make a fun and great evening. Vice

some purchasing tickets for all Christmas programs. This summer's movies have been
well attended with 200 to 220 attending each movie. City Council approved to update,
to current technology, the existing PAC audio and visual equipment and public rentals.
NEW BUSINESS
David Klempin and Cody Jolliff presented to the board the proposed budget numbers for
the Foundation's FY 2018-19 Budget. Cody directed them through the proposed
numbers saying changes were few, but positive; he noted the Joe Wright memorial
donations and a 32 percent increase in programming. He pointed out the branded
merchandise in the Farm Store with sales at $500 for total year when he came two
years ago, and now at near $10,000 with the increase in activities. He continued with
the Palace Arts Center projections and showing more movies. Frances Jensen said the
CVB was doing a great job on marketing and social media, admission prices were
raised $1 a couple of years ago to $6 and advised it was best to stay there for now. Vice
Chairman Stanfield asked how many were movie passes and discounts; Paula Newman
answered yes some, GHF stays down a bit. Vice Chairman Stanfield asked about the
Nash Farm expenses break-out with the horses and animals Ken and Ann Murray bring
— Cody said they always donate their services. Vice Chairman Stanfield asked for the
Foundation to recognize the Murray's generosity to the Farm at the Annual Meeting; she
then asked about "professional services", if for a facilitator and was answered yes;
Council Liaison Mike Lease noted it was time to do again, Chairman Ratliff agreed.

to find a training venue. As of now, all focus is for homeowner's houses to tour; and
docents to make the tour work. Now confirmed are one business and one residential
home. The call for docents was announced at this morning's Historic Downtown
Grapevine Merchants Association meeting; two docents came forward to volunteer for
the November 2 — 3, 2018 tour activities.
DISTRIBUTION OF LIAISON REPORTS
Grapevine Historical Society (GHS) — Liaison Frances Jensen said the first time she
attended a Historical Society, four years ago, it was the same subject presented by
Marvin Applewhite, curator of the Applewhite-Clark Exhibit at the Texas Cowboy Hall of
Fame in the Fort Worth Stockyards. His exhibit features General Gano and other well-
known Texas icons who were involved in the Texas Republic and its struggle to gain
independence from Mexico. He presented the history of Richard Gano who moved to
the Grape Vine Prairie from Kentucky in 1859. Gano was a physician and a minister; at
12 years old he had entered college and at age 19 completed medical school. He
joined the Civil War in 1861, eventually achieving the rank of Brigadier General. Mr.
Applewhite's history spanned to modern day with Richard Gano's granddaughter being
the mother of Howard Hughes.
The July program will be PARKLAND HOSPITAL -A Rich Historic Legacy
In 1890, Dallas was a frontier town with medical care delivered by doctors on
horseback. In 1894 with the building of Parkland Hospital, Dallas grew and felt the pain
of the polio epidemic, world wars, and the Kennedy assassination. This is the story of
Parkland Hospital and its 120 -year journey from frontier medicine to becoming one of
the world's premier medical centers. Parkland's past is told through photographs and
stories collected by John W. Boyd, MD, a physician in the Dallas area for the past 30
years. Dr. Boyd promises `never seen before' photographs relating to the Kennedy
assassination.
Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) — Balla Wright said the meeting had many
staff approved Certificate of Appropriateness applications to sign off on. Chairman
Shope announced Ted R. Ware had resigned from the Commission, and tonight was
celebrating his 66th wedding anniversary. There was one case for a property in the D.E.
Box Addition for outside additions by former Dallas Cowboy player Dat Nguyen.
Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) — Paula Newman reported the CVB
had been very busy with GrapeFest preparations for September 13, 14, 15 and 16; the
2018 GrapeFest poster was unveiled last week and has been posted around town. Our
graphic designer artist for this poster is Scott Baker, you may have noticed his work on
the Texas Wine Tribute invitation you received from the CVB, he is very talented and
creative.
The CVB will go before Council in August to request updates for the Palace Arts Center.
The Festival & Events team attended the Texas Festivals and Events Association
conference and returned with many awards for marketing the best poster, printed
materials, best new event, wine tasting trails, vendor/supplier and onsite decorating.
4 July 18, 2018
18 July 2018
Grapevine's wine crusher truck, Miss Grapevine, was the centerpiece of several events
there. The Sales team mission to Japan was reported by Tamer Attia.
Historic Grapevine Township — David Klempin reported still many Certificates of
Appropriateness applications; the Dat Nguyen home for his wife and five children; and
still no sale of the McPherson Farmhouse — lots of interest, but no buyers. Costs for the
completion of the McPherson Farmhouse will be similar to the costs for the Blevins
House's electrical, plumbing and HVAC. Chairman Ratliff suggested perhaps
architectural renderings of what the house could be with 21St century amenities.
Secretary Perkins questioned promoting the McPherson Farmhouse on the upcoming
Candlelight Tour of Homes, Chairman Ratliff said we were avoiding unfurnished homes
as not what the public comes to see; and we are hoping it is sold by then.
David Klempin advised the Foundation of the application to demolish the home at 314
East Franklin Street. The home had belonged to Mr. Robert Stark a longtime friend and
activist with Mayor B.R. Wall's mission to aid the Pitcairn Islanders. Their contact was
by short-wave radio in Mr. Stark's Ham Radio office (behind this home) reaching 7,000
miles to communicate the needs of our first Sister City. Mayor Wall's mission is
represented by the bronze in front of City Hall, the box at his feet represents the
collection box he kept in his office to collect for the Pitcairn Islander's needs. After
Mayor Wall's death, Mr. Stark continued his mission work.
The board agreed to speak at the upcoming meeting supporting the need to save this
part of Grapevine's heritage. This property is listed in the National Register District East
of Main as a contributing structure.
Dr. Ratliff called for all future meeting agendas to include a generic listing to discuss
efforts needed from the Foundation for the preservation of Grapevine's heritage.
