The next meeting of the Grapevine Heritage Foundation will be held in the Second Floor Board
Room of the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at 5:00
pm at 636 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas. If you plan to attend this public meeting and you

The Grapevine Heritage Foundation (GHF) Advisory Board met at 5:00 p.m. on
Wednesday, August 15, 2018 in the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau, 2nd Floor
Boardroom, 636 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas 76051 for their regular scheduled
monthly meeting.

CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Curtis Ratliff called the meeting to order at 5 p.m. and thanked all for
attending.
II. CITIZEN COMMENTS
There were no citizen comments.
Any person who is not scheduled on the agenda may address the Historic Preservation
Commission under Citizen Comments by completing a Citizen Appearance Request form. In
accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Advisory Board is restricted in discussing or
taking action during Citizen Comments.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Melva Stanfield made the motion to accept the minutes as written from the July 18,
2018 meeting. Balla Wright seconded the motion, which prevailed in the following vote:
Ayes: All (Ratliff, Stanfield, Wright, Franks, Hummer and Jensen)
Nays: None
Absent: Fray, Perkins and Stinson

OLD BUSINESS
The July membership total was 218 active members and a $500 Sponsorship was
received.
Vice Chairman Melva Stanfield gave the Nash Farm report of 221 people attended the
First Friday program; 15 interpretive tours were conducted; and the /ce Cream Social
had 350 guests, with many dressed in period appropriate attire plus a vintage group
dressed in 1920's fashions.
Treasurer Wright noted the aforementioned $500 Sponsorship bringing the year-to-date
sponsorship of $17,500 to $18,000.
Managing Director of Administration & Operations Paula Newman reported the Palace
Arts Center had 32 events with 4,243 guest attending. The City Council approved the
roof repairs for the PAC complex, and the sound system with audio visual cabling
scheduled to be installed in October. The Palace Theatre movies, The Goonies and
Roman Holiday, had good crowds; good movies bring good sales.
NEW BUSINESS
The 2018 Candlelight Tour of Homes update was given by preservation staff member
Mary Bush, reporting the selection of available houses was lean this year with so many
beautiful restored homes near completion, but not before the 2018 tour. Several
homeowners have signed on with restorations plus one very appropriate (new build)
infill property. All were reminded to reserve the tour days, on November 2 and 3, to help
with the tour.
DISTRIBUTION OF LIAISON REPORTS
Grapevine Historical Society (GHS) — Chairman Ratliff reported Dr. John Boyd's
program on Parkland Hospital was very interesting beginning with the hospital being
built in 1893 at Maple and Oak Lawn Streets through the assassinations of John F.
Kennedy and Jack Ruby who were treated there to current day.
Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) — Heritage Preservation Programs
Manager David Klempin had great news with Treasurer Balla Wright having acquired
the Wiggins House on East College Street and her restoration plans were approved at
the July commission meeting. The property at 314 East Franklin Street case was tabled
to the August meeting. A meeting of Historic Preservation staff, HPC Chairman, City
building officials and the applicants were scheduled to meet on Friday morning.
Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) — Paula Newman reported the CVB
Sales team had scheduled 15 groups for 38,236 room nights; with 13 groups to use the
Destination Services for the 12,400 attendees. The CVB team is working on all things
GrapeFest; this year's themed wines will be from Spain and California and accompany
the six scheduled wine paired dinners. People attending conventions at the area hotels
are spending their free nights on Main Street, keeping the area busy. The Grapevine

Market will be open through October; this Friday will be the last weekday train run to
Fort Worth for this year. We will have two new diesel train engines coming from
Connecticut.
Historic Grapevine Township — David Klempin reported still many Certificates of
Appropriateness applications; the Blevins House at 428 East College Street is
progressing well with exterior siding work, new windows ordered and the porch to come
will have Doric columns. He noted the upcoming tabled case for the house at 314 East
Franklin Street is hoped to be worked out, but may need the support of the Foundation.
Paula Newman announced the McPherson House had an interested party who has the
right vision. The posted bid is open until the sealed bid opening on Tuesday, September
4, 2018 at 2 p.m.
ADJOURNMENT
Sue Franks, seconded by Balla Wright, made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:55
p.m. The motion prevailed by the following vote:
Ayes: All (Ratliff, Stanfield, Wright, Franks, Hummer and Jensen)
Nays: None
Absent: Fray, Perkins and Stinson
