The next meeting of the Grapevine Heritage Foundation will be held in the Second Floor Board Room of the
Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at 5:00 pm at 636 South Main
Street, Grapevine, Texas. If you plan to attend this public meeting and you have a disability requiring special
arrangements, please contact the Office of Historic Preservation at 817-410-3185 at least 24 hours in
advance. Reasonable accommodations will be made to assist your needs.
In accordance with Texas Government Code, Chapter 551.001 et seq. Acts of the 1993 Texas Legislature,

The Grapevine Heritage Foundation (GHF) Advisory Board met at 5:00 p.m. on
Wednesday, September 19, 2018 in the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau, 2nd
Floor Boardroom, 636 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas 76051 for their regular
scheduled monthly meeting.

I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Curtis Ratliff called the meeting to order at 5 p.m. and thanked all for
attending.
If. CITIZEN COMMENTS
There were no citizen comments.
Any person who is not scheduled on the agenda may address the Historic Preservation
Commission under Citizen Comments by completing a Citizen Appearance Request form. In
accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Advisory Board is restricted in discussing or
taking action during Citizen Comments.

III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Balla Wright made the motion to accept the minutes as written from the August 15, 2018
meeting. Becky Hummer seconded the motion, which prevailed in the following vote:
Ayes: All (Ratliff, Stanfield, Wright, Franks, Fray, Hummer and Stinson)
Nays: None
Absent: Jensen and Perkins
OLD BUSINESS
As Secretary Janet Perkins was absent, Chairman Ratliff gave the August membership
report with a current total of 220 active members, an increase; and with $200 in
personalized brick sales and a donation to the Foundation of $1,000 to be matched by
the donor's employer.
Vice Chairman Melva Stanfield gave the Nash Farm report of 860 visitors to the Farm in
August, with 509 daily walk-up visitors, 221 guests attended the First Friday program;
three interpretive tours were conducted; and staff served a Sister Cities open -fire pork
chop dinner with all the trimmings.
Farm Manager Cody Jolliff gave the group an update on the upcoming on Friday,
October 19; followed by the annual Fall Round -Up! on Saturday, October 20, 2018. He
called for a committee meeting before the two events; the group accepted Wednesday,
October 3, 2018 at 9 a.m. to meet.
Treasurer Balla Wright asked for an update on the 2019 Grapevine Heritage Foundation
calendar. Farm Manager Cody Jolliff said the calendar was now with the graphic
designer and then would go before editorial staff for edits and date checks. He was
asked the 2019 date for the Spring Into Nash event, answering Saturday, April 13th. He
reminded all Victorian Christmas would be on Saturday, December 1st; and Saturday,
December 8 would be Nash Farm's Christmas Open House.
Treasurer Balla Wright had nothing to report at this time.
Managing Director of Administration & Operations Paula Newman reported the Palace
Arts Center roof work would begin on October 1; the cabling and speaker upgrades
would be completed in November. Holiday ticket sales for the Texas Tenors, Kraig
Parker and Rocky Gribble's band are going well. Movies coming up were Star Wars
and The Parent Trap and a Kraig Parker Sunday brunch. She announced with 26 years
here, Rusty Hernandez was promoted to Director of Events & Venues. A new manager
with a background in theater is to be hired.

NEW BUSINESS
Chairman Ratliff asked the board to consider the date for the 2018 Annual Meeting of
Membership as per the Foundation's Bylaws section 1.4. The discussion of Thursday,
November 8, 2018 at six o'clock was accepted unanimously.
Chairman Ratliff asked the board to consider a recognition at the November 8 meeting
for Lieutenant Ken and Ann Murray for their support in providing their animals for
plowing and various Farm events, at no charge, throughout the years. The recognition
was accepted with unanimous consent by the board.
Janet Perkins was not present to give the calendar update, Cody Jolliff said he was in
contact with the designer, they would wait for Janet to return.
Staff member Mary Bush gave the current update on the 2018 Candlelight Tour of
Homes with no new changes, the committee had met the evening before where Melva
Stanfield had brought forth the Tour had not given a token memento to participating
homeowners since the 2009 event; it had been agreed to bring back this act of
appreciation by the Foundation. Member Courtney Fray had located and reserved a
venue for the October 16 homeowner and docent training session and docents, bringing
back some old friends to work the tour; she also noted a local distiller who might add to
the gift for participating homeowners.
DISTRIBUTION OF LIAISON REPORTS
Grapevine Historical Society (GHS) — Balla Wright reported the program was
presented by family member Mark Kelly about Grapevine's Lucas Family. Mr. Kelly was
an excellent, very entertaining emcee with Aunt Helen Jean assisting dressed in period
appropriate clothing. Member Sue Franks said it was a great program, adding she had
grown up across the street from them.
Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) — Chairman Ratliff said he was sad to
announce as advocates of Grapevine's heritage, they did not get the votes needed to
save the Stark House; there were three members to save the house and four members
to let the house be demolished. Discussion followed.
Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) — Paula Newman reported the CVB
had 114 leads for 128,000 nights; 11,085 visitors through the Visitors Information
Center and Settlement to City reported 1,300 guests; with 16,000 visitors to the Depot
and Historical Museum. Destination Services assisted seven groups totaling 15,500
guests. The Grapevine Vintage Railroad has coordinated scheduling with TEXRail for
the North Pole Express; tickets are planned to go on sale October 1. One of the three
railcars, acquired from Connecticut, will make room for more passengers. The Wine
Trains are near sold out with one filled and the other with a few seats left. Paula
thanked those who worked all weekend for making the festival great.
Historic Grapevine Township — David Klempin noted Chairman Ratliff's concerns.
Discussion followed. He reported to generate more awareness of the Township and the
Historic Preservation Ordinances, a Realtor training is planned and the Texas Historic

Commission has been contacted to assist in securing Preservation training for the
Commission within the next 60 — 90 days.
ADJOURNMENT
Sue Franks, seconded by Becky Hummer, made the motion to adjourn the meeting at
6:25 p.m. The motion prevailed by the following vote:
Ayes: All (Ratliff, Stanfield, Wright, Franks, Fray, Hummer and Stinson)
Nays: None
Absent: Jensen and Perkins
