Minutes of Tuesday, October 2, 2018 Meeting

1. Call to Order
The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:30 pm on October
2, 2018 at The REC of Grapevine.
The following were present:
Trent Kelley, Recreation Manager
Eileen Hinson, Active Adult Supervisor
Tena Burrell
Dick Guckel, Chairperson
Duff O'Dell, City Council Liaison
Isabelle Boyd, REC Liaison
Teri Rhodes -Cantu, Housing Authority Liaison
Christine Szymaszek, GRACE Liaison
Carey Miller
Pam Price
Roger Jones

Chorus has resumed. They will be going to different nursing homes
around town to perform songs from the 50s.
Carey Miller
Empowering Seniors is Friday, October 5. Opportunity for seniors to
receive information from numerous vendors.
5. Informational Items
• City Council report — Duff O'Dell
National Night out is October 2.
Within 3 hours of going on sale, the Polar Express sold 30,000 tickets.
They are on schedule to complete the parking garage located near the
new train.
Grapevine had one of the most successful GrapeFest events. Over
261,000 people were in town for the festival.
• Housing Authority report — Teri Rhodes -Cantu
A plaque will be placed on Texas St to honor the work of the Garden
Club that maintains the Housing Authority gardens.
They may be opening the waiting list in December or early 2019.
Christmas Party will be located at Elks Lodge on December 7 from
11:30-1:00.
Audits were done on the financials and they passed.
• GRACE report — Christine Szymaszek
They currently support 102 families totaling 110 Individuals
81 households were helped in August with food and financials.
82 households were helped in September with food and financials.
In August, they were able to help a couple strengthen their ramp and
walkways to their house. This was a partnership with Home Depot.
Womens Chamber will be visiting with seniors about the upcoming
holidays.
GRACE Gala will be at the Gaylord.
• The REC report — Trent Kelley
The REC buses will be replaced this year. They are currently at fleet
until they are wrapped.
Jurassic Gardens is currently going on at the Botanical Gardens.
Grapeyard will be on October 26 and 27 at the Oak Grove Soccer
Complex.
Staff will wear breast cancer awareness shirts on Thursdays during the
month of October.
Oak Grove softball complex set to open in 2019.
Gym floor replacement will occur this fiscal year.
• Active Adult Supervisor — Eileen Hinson
Baylor Scott & White is currently teaching two classes at The REC.
SAIL is a 3 -month program that teaches seniors how to remain mobile
and learn balance techniques. Matter of Balance began on October 1
and teaches exercises that improve balance.
State Fair trips are on October 4, 11 and 18.
Empowering Seniors is on Friday, October 5.
Veterans Day lunch and Chorus performance will be in November.
