The next meeting of the Grapevine Heritage Foundation will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2019,
at 5:00 pm at Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau 2nd Floor Boardroom, 636 South Main Street,
Grapevine, Texas. If you plan to attend this public meeting and you have a disability requiring
special arrangements, please contact the Office of Historic Preservation at 817-410-3185 at least

In accordance with Texas Government Code, Chapter 551.001 et seq. Acts of the 1993 Texas
Legislature, the Grapevine Heritage Foundation Board meeting agenda was prepared and posted

The Grapevine Heritage Foundation (GHF) Advisory Board met at 5:00 p.m. on
Wednesday, March 20, 2019 in the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau, 2nd Floor
Boardroom, 636 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas 76051 for their regular scheduled
monthly meeting.

I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Curtis Ratliff called the meeting to order at 5 p.m. and thanked all for
attending.
II. CITIZEN COMMENTS
Any person who is not scheduled on the agenda may address the Historic Preservation
Commission under Citizen Comments by completing a Citizen Appearance Request form. In
accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Advisory Board is restricted in discussing or
taking action during Citizen Comments.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Balla Wright made the motion to accept the minutes as written from the February 20,
2019 meeting. Janet Perkins seconded the motion, which prevailed in the following
vote:

IV. OLD BUSINESS
Secretary Janet Perkins reported membership at 223 active members and $1,020 in
donations. She presented the board with membership lists of renewals overdue for
some time now and called on board members to check the list and update the current
standing on those they recognize. Secretary Perkins reminded all the standard income
tax deduction of$12,500 could affect donations made to not-for-profit organizations.
Vice Chairman Melva Stanfield reported Nash Farm's February attendance numbers
had been lower due to the cold and rainy weather for the First Friday "Desserts"
program with 43 participants and the Family Day"The Making Valentines Cards" with 30
attending. The annual February "Victorian Candy Making Workshop" sold 14 of the 15
spaces available. Group tours brought 136 guests to the Farm; special events 223; and
daily visitation 193. March attendance to date was 58 for the First Friday program; 14
for the "19th Century Farm Meal Workshop"; and group tours had 111 students
attending. Farm Manager Cody Jolliff reported Spring Break activity programs were
scheduled for the week with Monday — Autograph Books $3; Tuesday — Sewing a Bag
$2 and Toolbox Making $7; Wednesday - Kites $3 and Spin Tops $2; Thursday— Wood
Benches $7 and Paper Dolls $3; and Friday — Clay Marbles $2 and Candy Making $3;
totaling 577 visitors for the week.
Treasurer Balla Wright reported the annual sponsorship drive had brought in $19,500,
exceeding their goal. Treasurer Wright addressed the Foundation's scholarship program
saying the first year response from the recipient was outstanding; the second year
recipient gave no feedback or as to how the money was used. She noted the need for
follow up on how the money was applied to support maintaining heritage; the board
agreed she would speak to fellow board member Sue Franks with the Grapevine
Education Foundation regarding the conditions of receiving scholarships. Courtney Fray
volunteered to liaison scholarship recipients in reporting back to the Foundation.
Managing Director Paula Newman reported the Palace Arts Center had 28 events in
February totaling attendance of 3,585 guests. She announced the Palace Theatre
would participate in the International Manhattan Short Film Festival on September 27,
2019. Janet Perkins stated the Palace Arts Center staff were excellent, Paula thanked
and agreed with her.
V. NEW BUSINESS
Farm Manager Cody Jolliff updated the board on the Spring Into Nash (SPIN) April 13,
2019 event with all activity programs set and not requiring another committee meeting
at this time. They will display building methods, carpentry tools, bits and braces as part
of the building theme to celebrate the Farmhouse's birthday. He will have Frances

Jensen in the Farmhouse, Becky Hummer will continue to apprentice with Melva
Stanfield in concessions, Janet Perkins, and Courtney Fray will do first aid, ribbons and
membership sales, Curtis Ratliff will show and speak on the architecture of the period.
There will be a small woodworking project to build and perhaps stencil; Chairman Ratliff
noted former supporter Harlan Jewett used to come over and make whirligig birds out of
wood with wings that turned in the wind. Fried pies and popcorn were discussed to be
sold in two different areas to help keep lines moving faster, water and soda will be sold
in the Farm Store.
Balla Wright asked in celebrating the Farmhouse's birthday to have photographs
displayed of how the house was built and showing its appearance through the last 150
years; David Klempin agreed to do so.
Farm Manager Jolliff reported trying to locate a heritage inspired chef for the April 26
Farm Supper and more heritage hors d'oeuvres for the reception.
Staff reported more Preservation Advocacy nominations were needed before the March
29 deadline for the May 2019 awards.
Chairman Ratliff addressed the Candlelight Tour of Homes (CTOH) committee saying
he had spoken with the committee, staff and the Grapevine Heritage Foundation
Executive Committee. The Executive Committee had met and agreed they are to be
apprised of all elements of the committee; Vice Chairman Melva Stanfield will serve as
the conduit from the committee to the Executive Committee. All must be discussed with
the whole group, the Foundation's Executive Committee and with the Convention &
Visitors Bureau (CVB) support. The CTOH committee will meet on Monday, April 1,
2019 at 5 p.m. in the CVB 2nd Floor Boardroom.
David Klempin reported the passing of Pastor Robert Redmon of Love Chapel Church
of God in Christ, longtime friend to Mayor Tate and Grapevine. Services are to be held
in Denton on Saturday, March 30, 2019.
Managing Director Paula Newman updated the group on the Convention & Visitors
Bureau listing of the 1903 Blevins House at 428 East Wall Street. The for sale by
sealed bid was advertised to the public on March 7 and 14; with sealed bids to be
opened on March 28, 2019 at 2 p.m.
The McPherson Barn (one of only four or five existing 4-crib barns) contract was passed
by City Council for restoration expert Bill Marquis of Denton County to restore using
pioneer era techniques; with the goal of a ribbon cutting at GrapeFest. The March 2nd
Texas Independence Day celebration was a success.
The Grapevine Vintage Railroad ran the full week of Spring Break to the Stockyards
with Thursday, Friday and Saturday sold out. Puffy's firebox has been sent to
Cheyenne, Wyoming to be ready by the fall season. Gaylord's summer program is
Peter Pan; the CVB's Summer Blast gallery exhibit will be pirate themed "Pirates! A
Whimsical Adventure" with pirate themed STEM program activities. Great job to Cody
Jolliff on bringing Nash Farm and the Cotton Belt Railroad together to feature one

another. The 35th Annual Main Street Fest will salute 1985 with a Back to the Future
theme.
April 13, 2019 will be a great day for Grapevine with the Blessing of the Vines & Gallery
Trail, Day Out with Thomas, the Farmer's Market opens for the season on Friday April
12, the Garden Club's Annual Plant Sale at the Botanical Gardens, a Park's event at
Parr Park and our own Spring Into Nash. The goal is to have parking available at the
Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park new lot ...all on the same day topped off with Rocky
Gribble playing the Palace that night.

Melva Stanfield, seconded by Janet Perkins, made the motion to adjourn the meeting at
6:20 p.m. The motion prevailed by the following vote:

Chairman Ratliff called for a meeting of the Executive Committee to follow this meeting.
