The City of Grapevine Parks & Recreation Advisory Board met March 21, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the
Administration Conference Room at The REC of Grapevine, 1175 Municipal Way, Grapevine, Texas
with the following members present, to -wit:

Constituting a quorum with the following members of City staff:
Kevin Mitchell, Director
Chris Smith, Deputy Director
Betsy Marsh, Environmental Education Coordinator
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.
A moment of silence was observed.
Approval of Minutes
A motion was made by Ray Harris and seconded by John Dalri to approve the February 21, 2019
minutes. Motion passed 9-0.

Assaad, Morgan Nichols and Dave Buhr

Citizen Comments
There were no citizen comments.
Presentation:
Betsy Marsh gave a presentation over the GO (Grapevine Outdoors) Wild programs. These programs
include field trips within the Grapevine Parks system, investigations at schools, citizen science, native
plant gardens and tree trails and master gardener speaker series. Research programs include Texas
Stream Team (water testing), City Nature Challenge, iNaturalist Explorers, and bat research.
Restoration projects include events such as Habitat Builders and Happy to Help. During these
events, restoration efforts are done at Meadowmere Park, GMS, Parr Park, Botanical Garden and
Lake Point Park.
PARD Information Items:

o GBS opening day & 10 -year anniversary
o USA Baseball
• Capital Projects
o Received a $500K grant from TP&W for Settlers Park
• Lake Parks
o Phasing out metal shade structures and adding concrete pads
o Vineyards Campground — electrical pedestals and working on getting more sites available
o Meadowmere Park restroom
• Events
o Grapevine Garden Club Plant Sale with an open house of Bessie Mitchell House
o Go Grapevine Games
o Wettest Egg Hunt
• Park Maintenance
o Bear Creek Dog Park bridge and decking
o Bessie Mitchell House — the inside is complete and the outside is being finished.
• Recreation
o New south gymnasium floor under construction
• Volunteerism
Miscellaneous Board Items:
Student Report — Annemarie Martin gave a report on the Special Olympics event, CHHS soccer and
the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Mustang Panther Stadium.
GCISD Report — Jorge Rodriguez gave a report on the HB3 senate bill, GT funding, audit on dyslexia
program, elections for School Board and a career tech program.
Adjourn
A motion was made by Mark Assaad and seconded by Dave Buhr to adjourn the meeting at 7:11 p.m.
Motion passed 9-0.
