CITY OF GRAPEVINE
The Library Board of the Grapevine Public Library of the City of Grapevine, Texas met in Regular
Session on the 13st day of May, 2019, at 6:30PM in the Board Room, Grapevine Public Library,
1201 Municipal Way. (Tonight's meeting is the rescheduled April 15th board meeting.) The
following members present to -wit:

constituting a quorum, with the following members of the City Staff:

CALL TO ORDER
Janice Cook called the meeting to order at 6:30PM.
CITIZEN COMMENTS — none
MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
Motion by Gerald Shannon, seconded by Lynda Brown, to approve the January 21, 2019 meeting
minutes as written:

Nays: None
Introduction of the New Library Director Ruth Chie o
Janee Trasler moved, and Debbie Venable seconded, that the introduction of the new Library
Director be moved higher on tonight's agenda. Ruth told the Board about herself and a bit about
her family. The Board heartily welcomed Ruth.
Ayes: Unanimous
Nays: None
Update on the ALSC Grant
Ruth reported that the $5,000 grant (Dollar General) was received and has being spent as
planned. The staff is active with the reporting and tracking requirements and will complete the
work on time. There was no formal action taken.

Update on the Mobile Librar
Ruth reported that GROW van is being "wrapped" today in Ohio. The van should arrive in
Grapevine the week of May 27th. The two part time staff (Jasmine and Karen) were hired last
month and will continue their training into June. Ruth distributed a handout showing the final
GROW artwork on the van, plus the planned 2019-2020 route stops. (Some stops will be occur
more frequently than others.) The handout also listed what items are to be on board the van. The
plan is to launch the GROW van in July. There was no formal action taken.
Report on Sensou Inclusive Certification
Ruth announced that he Grapevine Library is the first in Texas and the fourth in the nation to
become certified in the KultureCity program. This program allows individuals with autism and
other sensory needs the ability to see and experience all the things the world has to offer. There
was no formal action taken.
Update on the Summer Reading Club 2019
Ruth shared handouts with the Board that list the many upcoming events planned for this
summer's reading club — all focused on "Space." It's an exciting lineup. Ruth told the Board that
Janis Roberson has been a great help and the two of them together obtained gift certificates for
the reading club. There was no formal action taken.
Ugdate on 2019 TLA Conference
Ruth reported to the Board about this year's Texas Library Association conference, held in Austin
during the week of April 15th. Ruth participated in the panel discussion on "Digital Inclusion" and
in the topic of mentoring and succession planning to properly run a library. There was no formal
action taken
Update on Upcoming Volunteer Appreciation Lunch
Ruth reminded the Board of the May 22, 2019 Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. It promises to
be a fun event. There was no formal action taken.
Update on 2019-2020 Budge
Ruth informed the Board that this next budget will be a flat budget, as usual. There is a new
requirement that background checks be done on all volunteers. The costs of this requirementwill
be funded out of the operations line item. This requirement beings this fiscal year and will be
retroactive. There was no formal action taken.
Announcement of Ex irin Board Terms
Four Board members' term expires soon. All four (Janice, Lynda, Debbie, and Janee) have
reapplied to serve again on the Library Board. There was no formal action taken.
Walk of Honor Event
Ruth informed the Board that Janis Roberson will be honored for her forty years of service as the
Library Director of the Grapevine Public Library at 4:OOPM on Friday, May 31St. Janis is the first
woman to be so honored in Grapevine. Ruth will forward the invitation to the Board via email.
The next quarterly board meeting is scheduled for July 15, 2019 at 6:30PM.
ADJOURNMENT
Debbie Venable, seconded by Gerald Shannon, motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:23PM. The
motion prevailed by the following vote
