MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: JUNE 1, 2010
SUBJECT: PRESENTATION _ DONATION FROM BAYLOR REGIONAL
MEDICAL CENTER FOR IMPROVEMENTS AT THE OAK
GROVE BALLFIELD COMPLEX
BACKGROUND:
Now that the complex has been open to the public for approximately one year, staff has
identified some additional improvements to the plaza area at the Oak Grove Ballfield
Complex that include pavers instead of crushed granite, more trees for shade and more
picnic tables with umbrellas for shade.
Staff estimated that the cost for the improvements above would be approximately
$50,000. To pay for the improvements, staff approached officials at Baylor Regional
Medical Center to see if they had an interest in sponsoring the improvements. Baylor
has had a great long-standing relationship with the City of Grapevine. One example of
this relationship is the support the City receives from Baylor Sports Medicine team as
they are present during every soccer, baseball and basketball tournament sponsored by
the City of Grapevine or youth association.
Officials at Baylor Regional Medical Center agreed to sponsor the improvements at the
Oak Grove Ballfield Complex and will be at the meeting to present the check to cover
the cost of the improvements. For doing so, staff has agreed to name the plaza after
Baylor and install banners/signage with their logo. The sponsorship will be in place for a
period of 10 years.
