HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 05 - Hike and Bike Trail Master Plan ITEM
MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: JUNE 15, 2010
SUBJECT: PRESENTATION — HIKE & BIKE TRAIL MASTER PLAN
BACKGROUND:
Staff will present a plan of the existing hike and bike trails in Grapevine and show how
the trail and sidewalk system links parks, schools and businesses in the
City. Staff will also present a plan showing possible future trails that will link more parks,
schools, businesses and other cities in the area. Attached is a plan that shows both
existing and possible future trails in Grapevine.
Hike and bike trails and the linkage of the park system in Grapevine has been one of the
highest priorities of citizens of Grapevine in the past three citizen surveys relating to
parks and recreation. The City has been very fortunate to have received approximately
$5 million in grants from the state and federal governments for the planning and
development of hike and bike trails in the City. The City currently has over 26 miles of
hike and bike trails.
After the April 2010 Grapevine Parks & Recreation Advisory Board meeting, the Board
toured the City to look at existing hike and bike trails and where future trails could be
added to link more parks, schools, businesses and other cities. The Board approved a
master plan for hike and bike trails at their May 13, 2010 meeting.
In closing, staff will continue to search for grant opportunities for the planning and
development of hike and bike trails in Grapevine.
