HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 09 - Surplus and Confiscated Property ITEM MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: NOVEMBER 2, 2010 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION FOR THE SALE OF SURPLUS AND CONFISCATED PROPERTY RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider a resolution declaring the property listed in "Attachment A" as surplus and confiscated property and authorizes their sale through public auction. BACKGROUND: This request is to approve a resolution for the sale of surplus and confiscated property as listed in Attachment A. The City currently has several vehicles, equipment, police confiscated items and other property deemed surplus due to budget fleet replacements, equipment age or condition. Staff has considered age, mileage, cost of operation and/or life to date maintenance costs when classifying property as surplus. Staff recommends approval of the resolution to declare the items listed in the attachment as surplus and to schedule an auction for their disposal. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, DECLARING CERTAIN PROPERTY SURPLUS AND CONFISCATED AND PROVIDING FOR THE AUTHORIZATION TO DISPOSE OF SAID PROPERTY AT AUCTION AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, it has been determined that the City of Grapevine, Texas is in possession of items that are no longer used and of little or no value to the City and are described in the list designated as Attachment "A"; and WHEREAS,the procedure for notification of the owners of surplus and confiscated property as outlined in the State of Texas statute has been met. NOVA,.THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: Section 1. That all matters.stated in the above preamble are true and correct and are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety. Section 2. That all items described in Attachment"A"to this resolution are hereby declared surplus and confiscated. Section 3. That the City Manager, or his designee, is hereby authorized to schedule an auction for the purpose of offering for sale all items listed in Attachment "A" and to obtain the best value possible for these items. Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its passage.
