MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: DECEMBER 21, 2010
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF A DATA STORAGE SYSTEM FOR
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval to purchase a data storage system from Parity
Consultants for network data storage. The total cost is not to exceed $79,253.00.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding for this purchase is currently available in account 100-44540-101-2 (General
Fund/Professional Services/information Technology).
BACKGROUND:
Invitations to bid were issued at the request of the Information Technology department
and bid documents were issued in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter
252, Subchapter B, Section 252.021 (a) and Section 25.2.041 (a). The bid
advertisements posted in the Fort Worth Star Telegram on November 18, 2010,
November 25, 2010. The Bid was opened publicly on December 3, 2010
This purchase is for the replacement of the SAN (storage area network) at the Police
department data center. The current SAN is over seven years old and has reached end
of life with the manufacturer. Parts and service are no longer available. This SAN holds
the data and software configurations for most of the critical applications that the Police
and Fire departments depend on. This replacement is critical to keeping these public
safety computer applications running now and in the future. This replacement will get us
back on support and increase the storage capacity for future growth.
Staff issued bid documents to 13 vendors. Three vendors submitted offers. A tabulation
of the bids is attached for review. Parity Consultants submitted the lowest bid meeting
specifications. Parity Consultants has provided service in the past to the City of
Grapevine with satisfactory results.
Staff recommends approval to purchase the HP SANS Data Storage System from Parity
Consultants in the total amount of and not to exceed $ 79,253.00.
