The next meeting of the Grapevine Heritage Foundation will be held on Wednesday, August 21,
2019, at 5:00 pm at Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau 2nd Floor Boardroom, 636 South Main
Street, Grapevine, Texas. If you plan to attend this public meeting and you have a disability

In accordance with Texas Government Code, Chapter 551.001 et seq. Acts of the 1993 Texas

The Grapevine Heritage Foundation (GHF) Advisory Board met at 5:00 p.m. on
Wednesday, July 17, 2019 in the Grapevine convention & Visitors Bureau, 2nd Floor
Boardroom, 635 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas 75051 for their regular scheduled
monthly meeting.

I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Curtis Ratliff called the meeting to order at 5 p.m. and thanked all for
attending. Chairman Ratliff introduced new City Council Member Leon Leal sitting in for
Liaison Duff O'Dell; and the Grapevine Heritage Foundation's (GHF) new advisory
board member Wendy McMillan Nelson; acknowledging each of their past and current
service to the boards and organizations of Grapevine, Texas. He called on each for their
comments.
II. CITIZEN COMMENTS
There were no citizen comments registered.
Any person who is not scheduled on the agenda may address the historic Preservation
Commission under Citizen Comments by completing a Citizen Appearance Request form. In
accordance with the Texas open Meetings Act, the Advisory Board is restricted in discussing or
taking action during Citizen Comments.

111. 20'19 CHF SCHOLARSHIP
Chairman Ratliff called on Treasurer Balla Wright to introduce the 2019 recipient with
Treasurer Wright calling on member Courtney Fray who had volunteered to liaison this
year's scholarship recipient through the 2019-20 school year. Courtney introduced
Madison Tuley; Ms. Tuley thanked the Foundation board members for the 2019 GHF
Scholarship saying she was now doing a University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) CAP
mission and would complete her freshman year here, transferring to UT Austin next
year to continue her double major of history and anthropology degrees. She said she
had toured Europe this summer as a history student traveling through Budapest to
Slovakia, Vienna, Prague, Czech Republic on to Munich and by train to Berlin, a train
with no air conditioning and 90 degrees F. She advised all who traveled here to visit the
World War 11 Concentration Camps. Chairman Ratliff thanked her and said he looked
forward to hearing her progress.
IV. OATH OF OFFICE
Staff member Mary Bush administered the Oath of Office to new member Wendy
Nelson and reappointed members Franks, Fray and Jensen.
Chairman Ratliff called on all at the table to each introduce themselves to Leon and
Wendy and say a few words about their duties and goals for the Foundation.
V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Balla Wright made the motion to accept the minutes as written from the June 19, 2019
meeting. Becky Hummer seconded the motion, which prevailed in the following vote:
Ayes: 9 (Ratliff, Stanfield, Wright, Perkins, Franks, Fray, Hummer, Jensen and Nelson)
Nays: 0 None
Absent: 0 None
IV. QLD BUSINESS
Membership Report-planet Perkins
Secretary Janet Perkins reported 180 active members in June and one $50 donations.
The Membership committee will reconvene after the 2020 GHF calendar is completed.
Nash Farm Report-Melva Stanfield
Vice Chairman Melva Stanfield reported 208 participants for the First Friday "Keeping
Cool" program; seven group tours with 335 attending; Dairy Day had 250 attendees;
and the 1920's one Hour Dress Workshop had 13 participants with four dresses
completed in the workshop. June's total visitation was 1,204 visitors to Nash Farm.
Councilman Leal asked what Nash Farm's average attendance was. Farm Manager
Cody Jolliff said higher numbers during the Spring Into Nash and Fall Round-UP! events
but over 20,000 with attendance having doubled in the last three years. Councilman
Leal said he had attended last weekend's Ice Cream Social and was fascinated by the

record player in the Farmhouse; he asked if the Farm was involved with the school's
Future Farmers of America group; Chairman Ratliff answered yes, they have their
annual meeting at the Farm each year and we have worked with them and some of their
animals in the past.
Sponsorship Report-Balla Wright
Treasurer Wright noted the 2019 Sponsorship Campaign remains at $20,000. She
explained to Councilman Leal the sponsorship commitments are once a year for a one-
year sponsorship to show the donor's name /company at all events for a full year.
Palace Arts center Report-Paula Newman
Managing Director of Administration & operations Paula Newman said in June the
Palace Arts Center hosted 34 events with 3,432 attendees. The Christmas Capital of
Texas (CCOT) Christmas in July tickets went on sale on July 9, 2019 with tickets sold to
All Live concerts including the Texas Tenors and the Christmas movie series. The
Summer 11 a.m. matinee movies were doing well; they have been well received with
140 attendees at one of the matinees. The Carpenters Tribute show was sold out with
435 attending.

2019 candlelight Tour of Homes Update-Melva Stanfield
Vice Chairman Stanfield said all needed to be completed and in place now for the
media deadlines to promote this project; if you know of a home to be nominated or
willing, please bring it forward; we cannot meet the media deadlines required until we
have secured homes for the tour. chairman Ratliff asked if there were any questions,
there were none.
Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau Report-Paula Newman
Managing Director Paula Newman reported on the Grapevine convention & Visitors
Bureau saying the Convention Sales were strong in June with future sales leads of
138,210 room nights and 82,000 attendees; Destination Services assisted 13 groups
with approximately 11,000 attendees.
The fireworks display was better than ever on July 4 and will now continue weekly with
Friday Night Fireworks; the Farmer's Market had 20 vendors with 500 visiting; the
Grapevine Vintage Railroad will operate the Swashbuckler Express on Fridays for two
one-hour excursions. The Pirates theme continues to be very popular and well received;
Cody has been doing a great job with the SummerBlast Grapevine Pioneers program in
the Settlement to City museums, Section Foreman's House and Blacksmith's. And All
things GrapeFest!

Chairman Ratliff thanked her for her update and said the new parking garage was a
great place to watch the fireworks. He asked if Councilman Leal had anything to add.
Councilman Leal said he had a report on the city from our Council Liaison Duff O'Dell:
1. The Fireworks were really nice with great feedback;
2. Budget -- the Mayor has pushed to August 8, looking at personnel and a new fire
truck;
3. The lake and parks -- most open this week with the lake at six feet over now.
Board member Courtney Fray invited all to the Southlake Historical Exhibit reception on
Sunday July 28, 2019 saying they had hired her to design their poster to bring to life the
story of the 1919 Carroll School, Southlake's last standing historic building.
Chairman Ratliff reminded all the Grapevine Historical Society's program on July 22
would be the History of the Masonic Lodge in Grapevine and Tarrant County.

0 p.m. The motion prevailed by the following vote:

Announcement:
Courtney asked all to enjoy the refreshments she brought to celebrate Treasurer
Perkins birthday today; board and staff commenced in singing Happy Birthday to Janet.
