Russell Pulley, Director of Golf Golf Board Golf STATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF TARRANT CITY OF GRAPEVINE The Golf Course Advisory Board of the City of Grapevine, Texas met in regular session on this 18th day of duly 2019 at 5:00 p.m, at the Grapevine Golf Course, 3800 Fairway Drive, with the following members present: Gary Davis Louis Capone Bryan Humphreys Tom Kormondy Robert Blalock Jonathan Wall Ronnie Hatley Tom Cherry Deborah Gore Member Member Member (absent) Member Member Member Member Member Member Constituting a quorum, with the following members of the City Staff: Russell Pulley Director of Golf Paul Slechta City Council Member Robert Singletary Head Golf Professional Merlin Tielkemeier Superintendent CALL TO ORDER Gary Davis called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m. CITIZEN COMMENTS There were no citizen comments. Russell gave the Oath of Office to the Golf Advisory mem Board (Gary Davis, Ronnie Harley, and Jonathan Wall) u��r« .rnroaucea councuman Paul slechta as Advisory Board replacing former Councilman Mike Lease. new term of office to the new liaison to the Golf Russell reported on the 3rd qtr. operations of 2019 vs. 2018. Rounds and revenue were down rulle Primarily due to weather (rain being the major factor) and Fairway Drive closure for the first three quarters. Russell reported that the last quarter should be much better helping to rebound from the previous three quarters. Russell stated that Merlin would deep tine aericfy in August vs. the previous Dry -Jet process which may have an impact on August. Tom Cheery asked how the funds !f there is a shortfall of income vs expenses. Russell Golf Course operates in regards to explained that we operate as an Enterprise funds and only tap into the General Fund if there is a shortfall. The Golf management team does its best in managing income vs expenses to keep that from happening. ITEM 4- Clubbouse Project update (Russell Pullev) Russell reported that the water/gas line routing was being studied The project is still working through Corp of Engineers requirements. Russell reported that there was some changes to the roofline being considered The basic clubhouse design as original presented is pretty much the same. Gary Davis asked about the costs being higher than expected Russell replied that construction costs continue to rise, so the quicker we can get started, the more beneficial it is to the project. The time frame to start is still expected to be late October. Russell recognized the GHS Girls Golf Team for their third straight State Title. ITEM 6- Bunker Discussion (Gary Davis) Gary Davis opened discussion regarding liner exposer in the bunkers. His comment of what could be done about players hitting the liner. Gary wanted to know if it was a design problem. Russell and Merlin replied that a better job needs to be done in maintaining the proper depth in the bunkers and that additional sand was probably needed in several of the bunkers in question. ITEM 7- Beverage Cart Discussion (Gary Davisl Gary Davis brought up the complaint about beverage cart service on the golf course and the lack of cart service available. It was commented that there was typically only one and maybe two on the weekends. Tom Cherry commented about the need for water for the health ofthe golfers especially without adequate cart service. Russell and Robert reported that a second new beverage cart was waiting to be delivered Paul Slechta commented that the. Council is fully aware of the problem and is working on a solution. ITEM 8- Benches for walkers on course (Robert Blalock) Robert Blalock commented on the need for benches to accommodate the walkers on the golf course, especially on hole that have a tendency to back up on the course. Tom Cherry suggested asking the parks department where they got the benches that are place in the parks within the City that were used as memorial tributes. ITEM 9- Annual Fee (Mon -Thur) (Robert Blalock) Bob Blalock asked about the possibility ofa Monday -Thursday annual membership. Russell explained how and why the annual program was set up and that it was never meant for everyone. Russell explained that to remember we were a Daily fee Golf Course first and that was where the bulk of our revenue comes from. Trying to make a program that fits everyone's needs could have a negative impact on the bottom line. Russell explained that there was a 20% discount already in place for Grapevine residents and the annual fee again was never put in place for everyone. Paul Slechta commented that if there was a discount to be put in place on the annual that he would be in favor ofa discount for the resident's annual fee. Robert reported that the Jr GodfAcademy was steady with 6-8 students. Robert shared the Junior League results and the All-Star selections from our Grapevine Team. Item 11- Golf Course Maintenance report (Merlin Tielkemeier) Merlin commented that even though the abnormal amounts ofrain has hurt revenue, it has helped with having to water less and having to buy less water. He commented that we have been lucky in that the recent heavy storms have not had too much of an impact damage wise as compared to many courses in the area. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES Consideration to approve the minutes from the April 18, 2019 meeting were approved with Tom Kormondy making the motion to approve the minutes and Tom Cherry with a second to the motion.
