HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 16 - Wastewater Treatment PlantMEMOTO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: FEBRUARY 4, 2020 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT DISINFECTION SYSTEM AT THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider Change Order No. 1for installing the ultraviolet light disinfection system improvement at the Wastewater Treatment Plant with Alltech Engineering Corporation. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the estimated amount of $133,586.10 in the Utility Enterprise Capital Fund 201. BACKGROUND: On May 21, 2019, the City Council authorized a contract with Alltech Engineering Corporation in the amount of $799,747 for the installation of an ultraviolet light disinfection system at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The UV disinfection system is the last treatment process in the Wastewater Treatment Plant and critical to meet our permitting requirements through the TCEQ. On October 15, 2019, Change Order No. 1 in the amount of $20,500 was approved for the design engineer, Parkhill, Smith and Cooper Inc., to design a new automatic transfer switch and an emergency generator for the UV system. This design has been completed and will add $133,586.10 to the construction contract with approval of Change Order #1 to Alltech Engineering Corporation. This change order includes: - $71,076.50 for the Cummins generator, automated transfer switch and other ancillary equipment; - $40,350.00 for installation of the generator equipment as well as modifications to the existing canopy to shelter the equipment; - $13,159.60 to remove and replace handrail on the aeration basin of Train 1 for worker safety; - $7,000 to install new concrete curbing and 2" conduit for fiber line; - $2,000 for drainage improvements and an additional 3' additional width to new canopy for equipment protection.
