SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE AWARD OF BID 379-2012 FOR THE
PURCHASE OF POLICE MOTORCYCLES FOR THE POLICE
DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of the award of Bid 379-2012 for the purchase of
police motorcycles from Longhorn Harley Davidson for the Police Department. The total
cost of this purchase is not to exceed $109,405.80.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding for this purchase is currently available in account 325-48910-117-12 (Capital
Equipment/ Machinery Purchase Fund/Motor Vehicles/Police CCPD Fund) for total cost
not to exceed $91,645.80 and Insurance Account 100-45561-109-1 (General Fund/P&L
Claims Paid/Insurance/Administration) for total cost not to exceed $17,760.00.
BACKGROUND:
Bids were taken in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter
B, Section 252.021 (a) and Section 205.041 (a). The bid advertisement was posted
February 9, 2012 and February 16, 2012. The bid was opened publicly on February 24,
2012.
There were 31 vendors notified of the bid. Bid packets were sent to five vendors who
requested it. Three bids were received. (See attached bid tabulation.)
This purchase is for a total of five 2012 FLHTP Harley Davidson Electra Glide Police
Motorcycles for the Police Department, one of which is being replaced due to an
accident which was a total loss. The Police Department received approval to purchase
the four new Motorcycles in the Vehicle and Equipment Replacement List for FY 2012
on September 13, 2011 and the other one through insurance funds.
Longhorn Harley Davidson was the lowest responsive and responsible bidder and has
provided this service to the City in the past with satisfactory results.
Staff recommends approval.
