MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: MARCH 20, 2012
SUBJECT: VIEWING PLAZA UTILITY POLE REMOVAL — AGREEMENTS
WITH ONCOR, VERIZON & TIME WARNER
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council consider authorizing the City Manager to enter into agreements for the
removal of the utility pole in the southeast corner of Hudgins Street and Main Street to
enhance the planned viewing plaza in that corner and take any necessary action. The
agreements will be with ONCOR, Verizon and Time Warner in estimated amounts of
$30,600, $16,700 and $4,500 respectively.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available °iri the CVB Headquarters account 177-48840-017-350.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Convention &Visitor's Bureau headquarters is now complete and the gunfighters will
soon be installed. In the coming weeks, the viewing plaza planned for the southeast corner
of the intersection will also begin construction.
Before the unveiling of the gunfighters which is planned for the weekend of Main Street
Days, the last significant task is the removal of the power pole in the southeast corner of
the intersection which currently blocks the view of the clock tower.
The Public Works Department has been assisting the CVB in coordinating with the three
utilities currently on the pole to relocate their facilities in the area. The three estimates
result in clearing the southeast corner of the intersection via re-routing or placing the lines
underground and allowing the pole to be removed.
The three utilities estimate the work to take approximately four to six weeks so it is
important for us to proceed with signing the agreements and getting the work in their
schedule.
Staff recommends approval.
