SUBJECT: APPROVAL TO AWARD BID 377-2012, ANNUAL CONTRACT
FOR MASONRY CONSTRUCTION AND REPAIR SERVICES
WITH FOUR OPTIONAL ONE YEAR RENEWALS
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider award of Bid 377-2012 to Austin Masonry Construction Inc. as
primary vendor and Chibli Stone Works as a secondary vendor for masonry construction
and repair services on an annual contract with four optional, one year renewals.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds for this purchase are available in account 174-74015-060-000(Street Maintenance/
Capital Replacement/Park Signage Replacement) in the amount of$80,000.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Bids were taken in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B,
Section 252.021 (a)and Section 252.041 (a). The bid advertisement was posted in the Fort
Worth Star Telegram on December 15 and December 22, 2011. The bid was opened
publicly on January 13, 2012.
There were 104 vendors notified of the bid. Bid packets were also requested by 10
vendors and of those vendors, two responded with bids.
The purpose of this bid is to establish fixed annual pricing for construction and repair
services that will be required on various masonry structures on an as-needed basis.
Construction and repairs would typically involve pavilion columns, bridge abutments,
retaining walls, signs, various brick work, and surfaces composed of pavers.
Austin Masonry Construction Inc. was the lowest responsive and responsible bidder and
Chibli Stone Works was next lowest. Staff recommends awarding a primary contract and a
secondary contract to assure availability.
Staff recommends approval.
