Renovate the existing plaza in front of the Cotton Patch Restaurant tenant space to allow for the installation of a Public Art water feature, a granite sphere and base; install a vault with fountain water pump adjoining the water feature; 2. Install the granite sphere and base water feature in the renovated plaza; as per the attached plans, specifications and photos with the condition a permit is obtained from the Building Department. An approved Certificate of Appropriateness is not an approved building permit; a building permit is / is not required. FUNDING SOURCE: Public Art Fund, account (114-44686-101-001 BACKGROUND: The 100 block of South Main Street has been a challenge to get pedestrians to cross Wall Street and explore the shops and restaurants located there. Public art has long demonstrated its ability to draw and direct pedestrians into areas where they might not otherwise go. Research has been ongoing for best possible methods to draw foot traffic across Wail Street to merchants and restaurants in the 100 block of Main Street. The interactive and unique feature of this floating sphere fountain will draw pedestrians across Wall Street and will allow for even the smallest child to move the granite ball, weighing almost two tons, on a microscopically thin layer of water. This distinctive fountain is further enhanced by the etching of Grapevine's location on the Northern Hemisphere on the globe distinguishing it further. Its size fits well on the corner indicated. The piece is self-contained, with majority of the plumbing located inside the pedestal base. Water is already plumbed to the site as irrigation for the current planter bed.
