Mayor Tate called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.
ITFI l. PUBLIC HEARCNG, INTENI' TO INCREA.SE TF TAX RATE
I
iMayor Tate declared open the public hearing for the purpose of a statement of
; intent to increase the tax rate as calculated pursuant to the Property Tax
Code.
i
Finance Director Ralph Seeley offered comnents, noting a decrease was
proposed in the tax rate fran $0.44 to $0.405 per $100 valuation. The rate
decrease is due to an increased value in the tax role. The effective tax
rate calculated for the City is $0.389.
During the budget workshops, some items Council requested be considered in
the proposed budget increased the tax rate to $0.4275 based on a
$1,890,283,115 t roll. If Council chooses to adopt a $0:44 tax rate, the
additional $0.0125 would generate $236,000 to be collected in the General
Fund, and Council could direct Staff in the budget ordinance to transfer the
money to the Debt Service Ftiuzd during the year.
Mayor Tate then invited members of the audience to speak regarding the issue,
and the following person offered ccments:
Dr. Terry Walker, 3830 W. T. Parr Road, questioned whether the proposed
budget would leave a short fall in the cash reserve fund.
There being no further comments by any menber of the audience or the City
Council, a motion to close the public hearing was made by Mayor Pro Tem Ware.
Council Member Spencer offered a second, and the mrtion prevailed by the
