SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF RELOCATION OF RAILROAD CROSSING SIGNALS AT
DOOLEY STREET
RECOMMENDATION: Consider issuing authorization to proceed on the relocation of the existing
railroad crossing signal at Dooley Street to Herzog Technologies, Inc.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funding is available in 178 Capital Projects Street Fund.
BACKGROUND: On August 20, 2019, Council awarded the Dallas Road Corridor/Cotton
Belt Trail project to the Fain Group, Inc.This is a project with Federal
funds administered by the Texas Department of Transportation. This
project consists of the Dallas Road construction and the Cotton Belt Trail
extension that runs north from Dallas Road along Dooley Street and then
west along the TEXRail right-of-way to Texan Trail.This project involves
relocating the crossing signal at Dooley Street to accommodate the Cotton
Belt Trail. TxDOT grant rules require that any railroad work be done by a
railroad contractor.
Herzog Technologies, Inc. has submitted a time and material cost estimate
in the amount of $27,141.70 for materials, labor, equipment, rentals,
expenses and contractor mark up for the relocation. Herzog Technologies,
Inc. is the operator and maintainer of the TEXRail corridor for Trinity
Metro.
Staff recommends approval.
