Historic Township Site Meeting A_A ;co --t 2- Historic Preservation Officer required notes Site Meeting 052920 Ref: #CA20- Historic 1903 Barn Historic Boone Lipscomb House 322 East College Street 29 May 2020 3:00 p.m. Meeting at 322 East College Street, with: David and Shelley Cox, property owner(s); David Klempin, Historic Preservation Officer (HPO); and Mary Bush Historic Preservation staff. Mr. & Mrs. Cox were most gracious to tour the above Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) staff to see the restored and decorated home; the home is known to them as the Barnes House due to the previous, of many decades, owners Paul and Kathryn Willingham Barnes with many photos and mementos displayed paying homage to them and early Grapevine. Mrs. Cox had contacted HPO Klempin to discuss work to be done on the 1903 Historic Barn located in the rear southwest corner of the property. The Historic Barn does need several runs of the lower siding replaced and /or restored. Mr. and Mrs. Cox plan on keeping the barn intact representing its Grapevine history and to apply for a GTRP grant to help restore the structure. The following was discussed: (1) install a wood floor with the barn with an earthen floor (sitting on ground); (2) appropriate entry doors, be it a barn door, sliding track or swing -out doors to allow a golf cart to pass; (3) a second floor opening window above the entry doors as seen on barns to pulley up hay bales for dry storage; (4) install a clerestory paned window above the entry doors; (5) to remove the far northwest storage door on the barn and replace with siding; (6) and two windows on each side of the entry door(s) on the north and south walls of the barn for cross ventilation. The exact design is to be reproduced, mirror image of south and north walls. Stored inside the above barn, Mr. and Mrs. Cox showed the HPO wood, doors, windows, flooring and casings removed and now left over from the restoration saying they did not want to throw away, the HPO mentioned a couple of salvage places dealing in old windows and doors for other historic Home restorations. The meeting concluded with Mrs. Cox loaning several photographs to HPC staff to scan and return to her. Mrs. Cox will be the general contractor on the barn work hiring sub -contractors to complete the work. She will present drawings of the plans discussed above. Mrs. Cox will complete a GTRP application for grant money; she asked several questions with the HPO saying he gathered and organized applications, but did not have a vote on the board awarding grant monies. ) S' yje"" - eo i i I '2_Cj 0: Historic Preservation Commission/ 322 East College 2020/Site Meeting 052920
